Memory cards are electronic storage devices, which are used to store various kinds of information like photos, audios files, video files, games, etc. There are various types of memory cards like PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association), CF card (Compact Flash card), SD card (Secure Digital card), MiniSD card, MicroSD card, MMC (Multi Media Card), Smart Media card, and XD (Extreme Digital)-Picture card. Usually PCMCIA or PC cards are used in portable computers. Smart Media Cards are used in digital cameras, personal digital assistants (PDA’s) and other hand held devices. There are some special type of memory cards like flash cards are used in cameras, cell phones, etc. devices nowadays. Memory Sticks are the sleek and easily fit into the devices. You can restore data from Memory Stick also using the software. CF cards are used in digital cameras, desktop computers, PDA’s, digital audio recorders and photo printers. SD cards and Multimedia Cards are used in cell phones, eBooks, PDAs, Smartphone’s, digital cameras, music players, camcorders, and personal computers. MiniSD cards and MicroSD cards are used in mobile phones to store photos, videos, and songs. In memory cards FAT (File Allocation Table) file system is used to store various kinds of files. NTFS (New Technology File System) file system has many advantages over FAT file system in areas such as security of data, consistency of data, speed of saving and accessing files. Even though NTFS file system is advantageous over FAT file system, it is better to use FAT file system in memory cards because such memory cards can be used in Microsoft Windows and other operating system like Mac. Therefore memory card file recovery program for Windows operating system is available to bring back all the photos after formatting memory cards.
When memory card is formatted, all contents of the memory card will get deleted. Memory card formatting can be done using the option in digital camera, mobile phone or any other device in which memory card is used. While viewing the photos or videos in digital camera if you press the format button accidentally, then it will result in loss of photos, loss of videos, or loss of RAW images from the digital camera. While transferring any files from memory card to PC, you should connect that particular memory card to computer through adapter or through card reader. If you wish to format any drive on your PC when you have connected memory card to computer and you end up selecting the memory card instead of drive to be formatted accidentally, then it will cause file loss from the memory card. While formatting the memory card different errors may occur like "Format Error" and "Formatting cancelled". These errors may also cause loss of files from the memory card. In such cases, you should use good SD card recovery. Sometimes you may wish to format your memory card with NTFS file system. File system conversion will delete the existing files on the memory card. When files are deleted from memory card or when memory card is formatted, then content of the memory card will remain as it is in the same location but link to those files will get deleted. Therefore, when link gets deleted, then such files will become invisible and such files cannot be accessed.
When you have formatted memory card accidentally then you should take some precautions so that you will not lose any photos, audio files, video files, or RAW images from the memory card permanently. If you continue using the same memory card after formatting, or capture new photos using digital camera and store them in the same memory card, then the new photos may overwrite older ones. This will lead to permanent loss of photos from your memory card. So when memory card is formatted, stop using the same memory card in digital camera or in mobile phone immediately. Do not convert file system of memory card from FAT to NTFS. There are some disadvantages of using NTFS file system in memory card. First of all the data transfer speed decreases when NTFS file system is used in memory card and while conversion of FAT to NTFS, all RAW images, photos, videos will get deleted. When you lose very essential photos or videos from your memory card then there is no need to worry. It is very easy to recover deleted photos from memory card can also be done easily.
